Guide to Christmas…Winter Wonderland

If for some reason you are lacking in festive cheer and you just happen to be in London anytime soon, a trip to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is an absolute must. Last weekend, the Hubster and I, along with family and friends, bundled the crowds, skated, sang, danced, drank and ate our way through the festive delights that this fantastic Christmas experience has to offer. We most definitely kick started December with a full on Christmas adventure and I have shared my highlights (and low-lights) just in case you are planning a trip…!

A lot of time was spent here…who knew Santa owned a pub?! I like him even more now…!

Now that’s a Christmas tree!

Winter Wonderland Highlights

  • Food Glorious Food! Festive food and drink stalls were in abundance and so beautifully themed. You didn’t have to walk far to feel the heat of a log fire or hear Christmas songs to entice you. It was the perfect day out to enjoy some delicious winter warmers before starting my detox on Monday. We gobbled up roasted chestnuts, German sausages, salty fries, hot chocolate, garlic mushrooms, cheesy potatoes… (Oh dear…reminiscing about the food is not helping Detox Day Four…) You will be spoilt for choices as far as food is concerned!
  • The lights and the decor are amazing and you literally feel like you have been transported to a Christmas village in some beautiful picturesque town. It was unbelievable to think that we were standing in Hyde Park.
  • We were lucky enough to find seats near a live performer who serenaded us with festive tunes all afternoon…it definitely helped get us in the Christmas mood.
  • The Christmas Markets were an array of gorgeous gifts, unique decor and yummy treats. You could spend half the day browsing through each stall before you’ve even reached the food and entertainment.
  • Ice Skating- a sure sign that the Christmas period is upon us! Unfortunately I am (extremely) clumsy so I opted out of this but the others had a brilliant time falling over and holding onto the sides for dear life! No one broke anything…thank goodness, although most had bruises to show off but were still smiling!

Winter Wonderland Warnings & Tips

  • Although you don’t pay to get in, you will most likely end up spending a small fortune on everything else. My sausage alone (without the bun) was £4.50 (ouch) and don’t even get me started on the roller coasters- £8.00 for a 30 second scare fest. What a rip off!! Other costs to consider aside from food, drink and rides are The Giant Wheel, Zippo’s Circus and The Magical Ice Kingdom. Just beware, it may not turn out to be a cheap family day out!
  • Take plenty of cash! If you run out of money, no where really accepted cards (except some of the market stalls) which meant you had to huddle your way back to the main entrance for a cash point which could take a while during busy periods!
  • Book Ice Skating beforehand! We pre-booked our tickets to skate and you can book on the day but all tickets were sold out before noon on Sunday, so it’s best to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • We visited on a weekend and to say it was busy would be an understatement. We had a little one with us and she was just as keen to explore as we were, so remember buggies and reins because you can quickly be swallowed up in the crowds. Ideally get there as early as possible to beat the initial crowds because as soon as the sun starts to set the evening gets stupidly busy.
  • Don’t take dogs– I know it’s a park but there was no greenery to be seen and hardly any floor space for humans to walk- I saw a few pooches looking quite distressed with all the squishing. Our four legged friends wont enjoy the lights, the chestnuts or the German beer so leave them at home where there paws are safe!

Until next time,

With Love & Festive Fun,

Katie x
