Valentines Day…Love it or Loathe it!

There was a time when I was single and it seemed that the dreaded Valentines Day came around so quickly, taunting me in the form of yucky love hearts and throw up poems, only to scream in my face that I still hadn’t yet found a boyfriend. My friends and I would mope in the lead up to big V-sucks-day and reflect on the failed attempts we’d encountered over the last year with potential (and some plain awful)  love interests. What were we doing wrong? When would we meet THE ONE? How would we meet Mr Right? Blah Blah…it’s crazy to think that one day a year can make you feel so utterly pants.

But to be honest I never had a bad Valentines Day.

I had some lovely ones in fact, ranging from fab nights out with friends to perfect nights in on my own.

So in support of all your gorgeous people out there who just happen to be single at the moment, I wanted to put together a few ideas of how to spend this Valentines Day…with your head held high and your heart full of optimism.

The Perfect Night in…

Any night that involves your closest girls, wine, chocolate, a box of Kleenex  and a truck load of Hollywood Hunks, strutting their stuff in some tearjerker of a movie is a front runner for a perfect Valentines night in my book. Here’s a selection of my favourite chick flicks that will be sure to get your hearts racing…

Magic Mike- Aside from the awful story line and the terrible female lead casting (but whose looking at her), this film was a huge hit with my friends (mainly my Sister-in-law!), it even caused a hot fluster during one eventful book club! Enjoy ladies…

The Notebook- If you don’t shed at least one tear during this movie then you’ve got a heart of steel! This to me is the ultimate love story. Tissues at the ready…

A Twilight Marathon- Hunky vampires and gorgeous werewolves…yes please! It’s funny how we reject potential love interests in clubs if their clothes don’t match, but give us a blood sucking oddball and humans morphing into animals and we’re all over them! Nothing gets us swooning like the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle. Oh what we wouldn’t all give to be in that miserable Bella’s shoes…!

Clueless- “Ugh, as if!” this film wouldn’t leave you giggling and reminiscing…we all wanted a computer that chose our outfit for school and a cool red jeep to cruise around in- Cher had it all and left us wanting it all too!

Workout

This may seem like an odd activity to do on Valentines Day, but where better to meet a fitness conscious, possible hunky and most likely singleton (otherwise he wouldn’t be at the gym in the first place- that is unless his first love is the gym and his sad girlfriend is stuck at home enjoying a meal for one whilst he tends to his beloved pecs!) It’s the perfect opportunity to eye up the available muscles, whilst getting a workout for you too! If you need any help with catching the potential hunks eye, then here are 10 Tips for Meeting your Match at the Gym! Good luck…

The Perfect Night Out…

This year Valentines Day falls on a Friday and whilst all those smug couples snuggle up in romantic restaurants, you could get your dancing shoes on and party the night away as if it was just any other night of the year. You never know, Mr Right might be planning the same night out with his mates and fate just might bring you together. It worked for me. Wink wink!

Pamper yourself…

Treat yourself to night of attention, relaxation and pampering…with a face mask, hair treatment, a bubble bath with candles, paint your nails, a little fake tan (always cheers me up!) Then catch up on any reading (un-stress related of course) or perhaps all the trashy television programs you’ve been meaning to watch and delete. For some ideas on beauty products that I’ve tried and tested lately check here and here. Also, Liz Earle’s Deep Cleansing Mask is a real favourite of mine! Ah bliss…

Do something different…

Break away from the norm and experience something new. Go paint balling, kick boxing or dry slope skiing even! For something really different, I highly recommend Future Cinema Presents: Who Framed Rodger Rabbit? There are still tickets available for Valentines Night so grab them quickly! I absolutely loved my Future Cinema experience which you can read about here. Guaranteed no one will be focusing on any Valentines Day mush here, the all round unique and ultimate cinema experience will see to that!

Whatever your relationship status, I hope that however you decide to spend your Valentine’s Day, it’s a happy and healthy one!

Until next time,

With Love & Optimism,

Katie x
